Download. Install. Make it yours.
On Mac, open the DMG and drag Murmur into Applications. On Windows, extract the ZIP and open Murmur.exe. Keep the extracted files together. Choose the download for your computer below.

Give your voice a way in.
Enable the microphone in Murmur Settings on Mac. On Windows, allow desktop microphone access in Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone. For Mac insertion, also allow Murmur in Accessibility settings.

Press F5. Say what’s on your mind.
Press F5 to start and finish; some Mac keyboards use Fn + F5. Enable insertion in Murmur Settings to write into other apps. On Windows without an installed speech engine, the Windows voice typing toolbar finishes the capture.

Is Murmur really free?
Yes. This version of Murmur is free to use, with no account, API key, or subscription required. The app is released under the MIT license.
Will it work on my computer?
The Mac DMG contains Murmur 1.2.1 for Apple silicon (M1 or newer), running macOS 13+. Advanced on-device speech needs a supported Mac and macOS 26+. Intel Macs are not supported by this build. The Windows ZIP contains v1.3.0 preview for Windows 11 x64, with .NET Framework 4.8 and Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. If WebView2 is missing, Murmur links to Microsoft’s download page. The Windows build has compiled successfully; live microphone and insertion testing on Windows is still pending.
Where does my voice and writing go?
Saved writing stays in Murmur’s local workspace on your computer. Murmur never saves microphone audio. On Mac, the advanced engine runs on-device; compatibility speech may use Apple’s online service unless you enable Require on-device speech. Installed Windows speech engines run locally. Optional Windows voice typing processes speech through Microsoft online.
Could my computer show a security message?
Yes. The Mac app is ad-hoc signed and has not been notarized by Apple. A DMG makes installation easier, but does not remove macOS’s first-open warning. If you trust the download, follow Apple’s instructions for the per-app Open Anyway option in Privacy & Security. The Windows preview is unsigned and may trigger SmartScreen. Only open downloads you trust; Murmur does not change your system’s security protections.
Can I dictate into other apps?
Yes. Enable insertion in Murmur Settings, focus a text field, and use F5. On Mac, grant Murmur Accessibility permission first. Murmur checks the original destination and excludes password fields. If the destination changes, copy your words from the overlay. Windows voice typing uses Windows’s own dictation toolbar.
