A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you
find your flow.

Is Murmur really free?

Yes. This version of Murmur is free to use, with no account, API key, or subscription required. The app is released under the MIT license.

Will it work on my computer?

This is Murmur 1.3.0 preview for Windows 11 on x64 PCs. It needs .NET Framework 4.8 and Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime, which are normally included with Windows 11. If WebView2 is missing, Murmur will direct you to Microsoft’s download page. This Windows port has compiled successfully; live microphone and insertion testing on a Windows PC is still pending. macOS, 32-bit Windows, and native ARM64 builds are not included.

Where does my voice and writing go?

Saved writing stays in Murmur’s local workspace on your PC. Murmur does not save audio. Installed Windows speech engines run locally. The optional Windows voice typing alternative processes speech through Microsoft online and needs an internet connection.

Could Windows show a security message?

Yes. This Windows preview is unsigned, so your browser or Windows SmartScreen may show a warning. Windows-only distribution does not guarantee warning-free downloads. Murmur does not disable Windows security settings. Only run a download you trust.

Can I dictate into other apps?

Yes. With an installed speech engine, turn on insertion in Murmur Settings, focus a text field, and use F5. Murmur checks the original destination and excludes password fields. If the destination changes, copy your words from the overlay. Without an installed engine, F5 opens Windows voice typing; it inserts using Windows’s own dictation toolbar.
